The Rain has Come!

Autumn is here and good falls of delicious rain have transformed the faded summer pastures to fields of green. Still short, but quickly growing in the warm days we have had, the pastures are rapidly recovering from the long dry, and all of the animals are enjoying having greens in their diet again!
Last year's foals ar growing too fast, like children. We wish they would stay little and amusing for ever! Both Poppy and Hal are already revealing their abilities. Poppy is an agile, quick turning, placid angel---she will be the perfect pony club campdrafting pony when she grows up. Hal has a loping, steady, ground-covering thoroughbred's gait and we can just see him soaring over cross-country fences when he is older. Hope they both end up doing what they should!
Broodmares are rapidly looking like broodmares, with the earliest foal due in late July (lucky we are not fussed about the August 1 birthday, or the poor thing might be one year old after a week!), and others to follow soon after. They are all enjoying the blissed out state of pregnancy, in a big paddock in front of the house, shady trees and space!
Working horses have enjoyed a bit of a respite from stock work as calving gets underway, with the focus on checking the cows and keeping them settled. BUT the pony club year has really only just warmed up and there are clinics, campdrafts, endurance rides, pony club camps, shows and one-day-events on the horizon!
Our favourite time of the year, with the promise of a new and fruitful season in the air! Calm, growing days loaded with potential in so many ways....autumn. A time to be treasured.
